ILLUSTRATION ON PAPER
INSTRUCTOR: JACQUELINE VIOLA MOULTON

This class will be an overview, exploration, and adventure in the art of illustration. Illustration is just another way of drawing, of seeing the world, and of putting it down onto paper in creative and alternative ways. This illustration class will go over the basics of illustration on paper. We will cover different illustrative styles and techniques—as well as creating a comic, a portrait, lots and lots of sketches, and the tools to create a finished illustration. We will learn and create together in a warm, open, and accepting environment where we can safely express ourselves and learn new skills in order to advance our pathways of artistic expression.

This class builds off of basic drawing skills which we will use to create illustrations and unique pieces of art. Some drawing experience is helpful, but is not required. If you would like to have some practice and explanation into the basics of drawing, I offer an introductory drawing class, Drawing What You See, which is excellent as a starting point. Feel free to reach out if you have questions.

MATERIALS
Pencil
- any kind will do! (A mechanical pencil is perfect)
Sketchbook (size 9” X 12” is perfect)
A black Sharpie marker
Micron Pen set - (amazon has a set of 6 pen for about 10 dollars-which is a great deal! https://www.amazon.com/Sakura-Pigma-30062-Micron-Blister/dp/B0008G8G8Y ) I like the Micron pen set, but really any ink pen will do, just make sure you have a set which will give you different tips and therefore will give you options in with the lines you will be drawing)
Marker set - look for a set which has a brush tip (often illustrative marker sets have a dual tip, one is a brush and the other either a chisel tip or a fineliner tip). How many markers you would like is totally up to you. You will need at least a few colors to complete the illustrations we will be making. They are often sold in sets online anywhere from 8-100 markers; at art supply stores you can buy them individually. Choose what you feel comfortable with. If you are unsure - let me know and I can help!
